Guides in St Austell are jumping for joy over a grant for £250 from Restormel Borough Council, which will make their time away at camp this summer more comfortable.
The St Austell Boscoppa District of Girlguiding intends to buy a fire shelter so that the girls will have protection from the elements as they cook their food over open wood fires.
Assistant Division Commissioner Pam Goudge said: "Previously we have adapted an old tent to shelter us from the rain when we cook, but this was not ideal. But it was better than trying to cope with umbrellas or have rain running down our necks!"
Jo Pascoe, District Commissioner for Boscoppa commented: "We are so grateful to Restormel Borough Council for giving us this funding. The guides love to cook over wood when we camp and the money means we can now have a purpose-made fire shelter."
Councillor Steve Honey presented a cheque to the guides during a camp preparation meeting.
